Minister of Commerce Chen Deming Attends the 15th session of APEC Ministerial Meeting

The 15th session of APEC Ministerial Meeting opened on July 21 in Singapore. Trade ministers and representatives from 21 APEC Members attended the meeting.

Chen Deming said that the measures adopted by Chinese government in coping with the financial crisis are producing positive initial results, and the overall economy in China is stabilizing and improving. The Chinese Government will continue to take a proactive fiscal policy and a moderately easy monetary policy, expand domestic demand and adjust structure,improve people's livelihood and promote reform, and play an active role in promoting the recovery of regional and global economy. He also explained the policies and measures taken by Chinese government in promoting international financial cooperation, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. He called on developed countries to provide financial support to developing countries, strengthen technology transfer and financial support in environmental protection to help developing countries in coping with climate changes.

On promoting WTO Doha round of talks, Chen Deming called on APEC Members to respect for authority to lock results, not push up prices, not to reopen negotiations, and make efforts to reach a comprehensive and balanced agreement before the end of 2010.

During the meeting, Chen Deming also met with WTO Director-General Mr. Pascal Lamy and trade ministers of Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Peru , and exchanged views with them on subject of common interest in APEC, and bilateral economic and trade issues.

The Ministerial Meeting is an important APEC meeting, focusing on in-depth discussions, exchange of views and seeking consensus on important regional and international economic and trade issues, and to prepare for APEC Leaders' Meeting to be held on November 14-15 in Singapore.
