Chen Deming: MOFCOM Shall Provide as Always Best Service to Reconstruction and Industrial Development in Quake-hit Area

Reconstruction in the quake-hit areas has made positive progress in the year since Wenchuan earthquake. Well over 95% of the commercial outlet service in the quake-hit areas of Sichuan , Gansu and Shaanxi have resumed by the end of the first quarter 2009, and requirement of livelihood and production effectively met. On implementation of The Special Planning for the Service System of Post-Wenchuan Earthquake Restoration, 406 commercial service projects were completed in Sichuan Province, accounting for 45% of the total projects under planning. Reconstruction projects in Shaanxi and Gansu Provinces were also implemented effectively.

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming made a tour to quake-hit areas of Mianyang, Deyang, and Chengdu in Sichuan on May 15-16 to size up the reconstruction of commercial outlets and the development of commercial work. Chen Deming said that MOFCOM shall continue to support the quake-hit area in invigorating commercial circulation, expanding investment and speeding up industrial development, so as to create more jobs and to provide help to people in quake-hit area and make them live in peace and contentment.
During his tour, Chen Deming and his party held a memorial service for those dead in the earthquake in the former downtown area of Beichuan and Hanwang of Mianzhu.

Minister Chen also signed a cooperation agreement with Sichuan Province, on making joint effect in invigorating circulation, expanding consumption, and maintaining steady growth of foreign trade, so as to speed up the development of commercial work in Sichuan.

Assistant Minister of Commerce Fang Aiqing was also on the tour.
